PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS

The Minangkabau-style National Museum is the country’s premier museum. Built in 1963, the museum acts as a prime information hub on the nation’s history and culture, which are spread out over four differently- themed galleries. Relics from the past can also be found within the grounds of the museum.

NATIONAL PALACE
Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim

Istana Negara or the National Palace is the official residence of the King of Malaysia. This majestic edifice at Jalan Duta officially became the National Palace in 2011, the palace boasts a traditional Malay design with islamic art work that were created by renowned sculptors from Terengganu and Kelantan.

DATARAN MERDEKA (MERDEKA SQUARE)

Literally meaning ‘Independence Square’, Dataran Merdeka marks an important point in history where the Union Jack was lowered to signify Malaysia’s independence from the British. The 100m-high flagpole is reported to be one of the world’s tallest.

SULTAN ABDUL SAMAD BUILDING

The stately Sultan Abdul Samad Building is one of the city’s most distinguished landmarks. Built in 1897, this heritage building served as an administrative centre during the British era. Standing right opposite Dataran Merdeka, it is the prime venue for the country’s National Day celebrations.

LITTLE INDIA

Malaysia’s Little India is situated within one of the country’s oldest Indian settlements. Officially launched in 2009, it is quickly becoming one of the city’s most popular tourist spots. Stretching from Jalan Travers right up to Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Little India is conveniently located right next to KL Sentral, the city’s main transportation hub.

MELAKA

PORTA DE SANTIAGO
Melaka City

The Porta de Santiago is one of Melaka’s most famous landmarks. It is one of the four main entrances to the A’Famosa fortress, which was built in 1511 by Alfonso d’Albuquerque, a Portuguese admiral. Even though the rest of the fortress was badly damaged during the Dutch invasion in 1641, its iconic gateway still stands to this day.

STADTHUYS
Melaka City

Characterised by salmon red walls, the Stadthuys was once the official residence of the Dutch governors and their officers. Built in 1645, it now houses the Museum of History and Ethnography. Next to it is the similarly-coloured Christ Church, a Dutch Reformed Church built in the 18th century.

SUBMARINE MUSEUM
Klebang

Melaka's Submarine Museum is the first and only submarine museum in Malaysia. The museums is the decommissioned Agosta 70 class submarine named SMD Quessant from France. Measuring 67.57m in lenght, it was previously used for training submarine crews in Malaysia. In Its heydays, it was widely regarded as a silent weapon.

HANG TUAH CENTER

Hang Tuah Center chronicles the life of Hang Tuah, the legendary Malay warrior, as told by the Malay Annals and Hikayat Hang Tuah. The center's complex comprises a cluster of five tradisional Malaccan Malay houses representing the five famous warriors during the era of Sultan Mansur Shah - Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Kasturi, Hang Lekir and Hang Lekiu. The center is located in Kampung Sungai Duyong, where Hang Tuah was born.

Standing majestically on top of a hill overlooking the little town of Ayer Itam, Kek Lok Si is the finest and largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia. Also known as Bukit Bendera or Flagstaff Hill, Penang Hill soars 833m (2,723 feet) above sea level. Located next to Perdana Putra, this is the principal mosque in Putrajaya. Built with rose-tinted granite that gives it its distinctive colour, the mosque can accommodate 15,000 worshippers at one time. An interesting feature of the mosque is the Sahn or courtyard, which is landscaped with decorative water features to provide a soothing feel.

With its distinctive green dome, the Prime Minister's Department Complex has become an icon in Putrajaya. Built in 1997, the complex houses the ofices of the Prime Minister, his Deputy as well as several other government departments and agencies. The complex incorporates various architectural influences, including European, Islamic and traditional Malay.

PUTRAJAYA

Putrajaya is a city in Malaysia, south of Kuala Lumpur. It’s known for its late-20th-century architecture including the Putra Mosque, made from rose-colored granite with a pink dome. Nearby is the immense, green-domed Perdana Putra, which contains the prime minister’s office complex. The 3-tiered Putra Bridge is inspired by Iranian architecture, with 4 minaret-type piers overlooking the man-made Putrajaya Lake.

MOUNT KINABALU Kinabalu Park

MOUNT KINABALU K inabalu Park (Malaysia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site) Standing majestically at a height of 4,095.2m, Mount Kinabalu is the highest peak in Southeast Asia. It is situated in Kinabalu Park, a wonderland of ecological treasures covering some 754sq km. The diversity of plant life in Kinabalu Park ranges over four climatic zones. Over 5,000 types of flowering plants including 1,200 species of orchids, 26 species of rhododendrons, over 80 species of fig trees as well as 60 species of oak and chestnut trees are found here. About 100 species of mammals and 326 species of birds are also known to reside in the sprawling park. Ascending and descending Mount Kinabalu’s summit takes two to three days, depending on the weather and one’s fitness level. Every year, participants from around the world gather here to take part in the Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon. It is dubbed as the ‘World’s Toughest Mountain Race’. Despite the challenging route and distance, mountain runners take less than four hours to reach the peak and return to the finish line.

PORING HOT SPRINGS

After a visit to Kinabalu Park, make a trip to the Poring Hot Springs to soothe away your aches. Poring Hot Springs is situated about 40km from the Kinabalu Park Headquarters. The main attractions here are the natural hot springs and a 157.8 metre-long canopy walkway. Standing at 41 metres from the forest floor, this walkway is a ‘must’ for visitors to Poring Hot Springs as it affords a commanding view of the Borneo rainforest. SEPILOK ORANG UTAN REHABILITATION CENTRE

Enjoy the rare and thrilling opportunity to see an orang utan up close. Situated in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve which sprawls over 4,300ha, this sanctuary serves to rehabilitate orphaned orang utans as well as educate the public on the importance of wildlife conservation. The viewing gallery gives an opportunity to see the orang utans being fed by rangers.

In the centre of the mangrove forests of Semawang is the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, where you can see Borneo's indigenous proboscis monkeys. This privately-owned sanctuary located within an oil palm estate gives you the chance to observe these animals up close and personal.

SIPADAN ISLAND

Sipadan is the only oceanic island in Malaysia, rising 600 metres (2,000 ft) from the seabed. It is located in the Celebes Sea off the east coast of Sabah, Malaysia. It was formed by corals growing on top of an extinct volcanic cone that took thousands of years to develop. Sipadan is located at the heart of the Indo-Pacific basin., the centre of one of the richest marine habitats in the world. More than 3,000 species of fish and hundreds of coral species have been classified in this ecosystem.

SARAWAK

GUNUNG MULU NATIONAL PARK Miri (A UNESCO World Heritage Site)

One of the most outstanding attractions in Sarawak, Gunung Mulu National Park is a treasure trove of vertical cliffs, jagged limestone pinnacles and intricate cave networks. The area is a paradise for researchers with some 20,000 animals and 3,500 plant species. Tours and caving expeditions are available from the park office. Visitors can choose from introductory, intermediate or advanced tours depending on their experience and fitness levels. Tours are accompanied by World Heritage Guides. To truly appreciate the beauty of Mulu, visitors are advised to allocate at least several days for their trip here. Accommodation ranges from camp sites, forest huts to the exclusive Royal Mulu Resort nestled amidst the rainforest. Mulu is accessible by air from Miri.

BAKO NATIONAL PARK Kuching

Bako National Park is ideal for day trips because of its proximity to the city. It is also said to be the best place to start your discovery of the state’s rainforest. Among the occupants of this national park are the rare proboscis monkeys, long-tailed macaques, leaf monkeys, monitor lizards, plantain squirrels and about 150 species of birds. Accommodation is available in the form of forest hostels and lodges.

SARAWAK CULTURAL VILLAGE Damai

An award-winning attraction, Sarawak Cultural Village is a cultural microcosm of the entire state. Dubbed as a ‘living museum’, the village showcases the lifestyles and traditional dwellings of the major ethnic groups in Sarawak.
